Bakuchiol: expert approved retinol alternative explained

Bakuchiol (pronounced buh-koo-chee-all) has become a popular buzz word in skincare recently, but this highly regarded, plant-based ingredient has age old roots in Ayurvedic medicine. Extracted from the babchi plant (specifically from its leaves and seeds), bakuchiol is power-packed, yet calming, making it the perfect solution for those with sensitive skin.

Is the hype real? Yes, a thousand times yes! Of its countless pros, bakuchiol is most appreciated for is its functional similarity to retinol without being irritating or harsh on the skin. It gently, but effectively works to stimulate collagen production and therefore reduces signs of fine lines and wrinkles, and is enriched with anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Other characteristics of this vegan retinol alternative include aiding in hyperpigmentation and dark spots, promoting elasticity and firmness, and helping to unclog pores for even toned, supple results. Further, its healing, soothing qualities make bakuchiol a safe option for pregnant and nursing women – a must have for Diipa when creating our Sunset Restore Serum!

Speaking of our PM serum, we’ve intentionally included a blend of both science and Ayurvedic backed ingredients that harmoniously support the properties of bakuchiol while streamlining nighttime skincare routines. Squalene, tripeptide complex, amla and saffron work together along with bakuchiol for overnight restoration. R&R in a serum – yes please!

Product FAQs:

What’s the best way to use the Sunset Restore Serum?

Apply the product just before bedtime after cleansing and drying the skin and before using moisturizer. Much like our morning Sunrise Glow Serum, use this product generously on the face, neck and body.

I’ve heard that storing skincare in a fridge prolongs its shelf life – is that true of the indē wild serums?

Our ingredients are happiest when stored in a cool, dark place and pack the most punch when used immediately. Therefore, both serums can be stored in a fridge if you so choose.

What if I’m new to bakuchiol? Is it safe for beginners?

Bakuchiol is a vegan, natural, non-irritating retinol alternative that’s both efficacious and gentle. It’s the perfect intro to Ayurvedic remedies, particularly for sensitive skin. When in doubt, consult your dermatologist and always patch test. Consider every other night usage as well.

Rest well, tribe! xx
